  • Recognizing a stroke

Below is an article that I got via e-mail. Instead of forwarding it to
everybody, I’ve decided to put it up here. Here it goes…

The life you save may be mine……………….

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours
he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke…totally. He said the
trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting to the
patient within 3 hours, which is tough.

    RECOGNIZING A STROKE – A true story

Susie is recouping at an incredible pace for someone with a massive
stroke all because Sherry saw Susie stumble – - that is the key that
isn’t mentioned below -and then she asked Susie the 3 questions.

Suzie failed all three so then 911 was called.

Even though she had normal blood pressure readings and did not appear
to be a stroke as she could converse to some extent with the
Paramedics, they took her to the hospital right away.

Thank God for the sense to remember the “3″ steps.

    Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim
may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the
    symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

    1. *Ask the individual to SMILE.

    2. *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

    3. *Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e.: It is sunny out today)

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify
facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged
the general public to learn the three questions.

They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association’s
annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result
in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain
    damage.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

BE A FRIEND AND SHARE THIS ARTICLE WITH AS MANY FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE, it could save their lives.

  • DonkeyFog Reloaded

    Hello everybody,
DonkeyFog, the elite software engineering team is back. Actually we
have been back together since September (except Chris, who is currently
in England gaining lots of pounds – both in the sense of money and in
the sense of weight ). I simply forgot to officially announce it here.

In case you forgot or I simply never told you, the team consisted of
Ahmed, Chris, Nadia, Eliott, Dominique, and me. Our project last year
was code-named “Project K” and the end product was a really neat and
user-friendly task management software system, using JSP and Servlet technology. We call the product
“GTask” because we were so impressed by GMail that we decided to
emulate the kind of usability provided by GMail. The project was a great
success. We got an A+ and the
teacher is using the documentation that we produced as samples for our juniors.

This year, we’re taking on something BIGGER for our final-year Capstone
project at Concordia University. We have decided to design and
implement an extensible software project management system, by the name
of “Impresario”. The basic idea is to allow project teams to
accommodate any software process in the system, be it Rational Unified
Process, UPEDU, Extreme Programming, or another of your favourite
processes; through the use of plug-ins for all kinds of management
facade (scheduling, resource planning, document writing, bug tracking,
etc.). This is an ambitious project and we do not plan to produce a
plug-in of every kind. We will implement the core of the system and
three essential plug-ins to prove that the concept works. Once this is
all done, we may release the API specification for people to develop
new plug-ins. In order for this project to work out, we merged with
another team from last year, to form a larger team of 10 people, and
the newly formed team is called (*ahem* please excuse our arrogance)
“Team Super Good”. The new faces of the team are Eric, Fareena, Ammar, and Robert.

Our team blog is located at http://teamsupergood.frustratedcoders.net/ and it is updated regularly. Check it out for the latest development.

  • Free iPod? (Well, ALMOST free…)

    Yeah…
It’s another one of those referral programs, where you create an
account, sign up for a discount offer of your choice, refer friends,
and then just sit and wait to get your free iPod.
I signed up for the Sears discount card, meh. If you are interested, just click here.

  • ORA-99999: Warning – bloatware detected. Please uninstall Oracle.

I can’t emphasise enough how much I hate Oracle. Look at the following lines of code and output:

    SQL> create cluster cust_supp_nation_cluster (n_nationkey integer) size 1484802;

    create cluster cust_supp_nation_cluster (n_nationkey integer) size 1484802

    *

    ERROR at line 1:

    ORA-02229: invalid SIZE option value

Now, here’s what the Oracle manual has to say about this very nice error ORA-02229:
    <quote>

Cause: The specified value must be an integer number of bytes.

    Action: Specify an appropriate value.

    </quote>

Are you trying to tell me 1484802 is not an integer?

  • Dream Island Killer Bees… in Real Life(!?)

Watch this video of 30 Japanese hornets versus a colony of 30000 European honey bees.
    There is another one
at the National Geographic website, which has the same beginning but
goes on to show how Japanese honey bees defend themselves against the
    hornets.

All shall bow before the power of Mother Nature.

  • New blog post title feature – Testing

I wonder why Xanga suddenly adds this “new” feature (of assigning
titles to blog posts). I never saw a big need for it. All I did in the
past year and a half is to use a heading-3 (<h3>) to mark the
title at the first line of each post.

What I would have much prefered instead is the ability to provide RSS
or ATOM newsfeeds, particularly for Xanga Premium members (among which
    I’m one).

And please Xanga, fix those HTML validation problems in your layout templates.
